First of all, many thanks to everyone who participated in the two RKUSI marquee centennial events that were held on October 17th!
The Defence and Security Forum was a day long event featuring a remarkable array of remarkable speakers and panelists. General (Retd) Tom Lawson, in his capacity as the Chair of the Conference of Defence Associations Institute, opened the Forum with a superb keynote address which succinctly outlined three immediate security challenges to Canada. LGen Boivin, Commander of CJOC, provided the second keynote address to the Forum where he spoke to the high tempo operational environment and the operational priorities of the CAF and CJOC. The three panels subsequently focused on revitalization imperatives for both Continental and Alliance security commitments as well leveraging emerging technology capabilities and industry.
In addition, thanks in large to the highly experienced and security savvy audience, the questions and discussions were equally educational and illuminating. In all, there were sixty-five participants all of whom made the Forum such a success.
The day was capped off in style as more than 130 guests attended the RKUSI Centennial Gala Dinner in the historic Fort Frontenac Officers’ Mess. The guest of honour was the exceptionally experienced Peter MacKay who was clearly one of our best Ministers of National Defence. An proud patriot, he delivered a heartwarming and stirring address on how Canada needs to better defend its sovereignty, interests, and support our NATO allies noting that there is still much to do. Needless to say, his inspirational words were exceptionally well received by all in attendance.
Our next presentation will be focused on CSIS on Thursday evening, November 20th at Fort Frontenac. We will close out the year with a combined AGM and RKUSI Happy Hour on Thursday December 18th. More details to follow. Thanks again for making our Centennial such a memorable occasion!
